As a leader in patient advocacy and engagement in the research, I have been collaborating with families and community members for more than 14 years, to ensure their voice is represented in research. I collaborate with senior hospital leaders, clinicians, researchers, to ensure meaningful engagement of patient and family advocates in all stages of research from development to dissemination. I developed the Research Family Partners Program to recruit, train and mentor patients and families to engage and advise research teams.

As the mother of three children with special healthcare needs, I’m passionate about developing programs to allow patients and caregivers to be engaged in the research process. I believe very strongly that you develop successful projects by collaborating and listening to others.

The ability to listen and collaborate is one of my core strengths, and is crucial in developing successful patient programs by harnessing many people’s voices. Building a program without the voices of many families is just assuming for them.

Utilizing my skills in Program Development and Project Management, as well as my many connections across the healthcare field, I have developed the highly-respected Research Family Partners Program at CHOP, and have consulted with institutions across the U.S. and Canada.

Some career highlights:

  • Developed Research Family Partners Program, increasing participation from 10 to 85 families
  • Conceived, co-wrote, and implemented first-of-its kind research training program for youth and caregivers
  • Earned an award for development of new Autism-friendly facilities with patient collaboration
  • Spearheaded advocacy efforts for Autism-spectrum students in NJ

As a recognized expert and key player in developing this new research engagement model, I speak at international conferences and organization meetings throughout the world, have authored papers, and sit on multiple committees.

My goal is to continue moving patient and stakeholder engagement in research forward. I welcome connections on LinkedIn, especially connecting with others in the field of patient engagement in research.
