Mark Lofgren

Mark Lofgren

Mark is the father of four grown children and will soon be a grandfather to six beautiful grandchildren. It’s his love for his grandchildren that brought him to Patients for Patient Safety. In 2021, he and his family suffered the unexpected loss of his healthy two-year-old grandson, Louden, because of a medical error.

Since then, Mark has been committed to bringing about awareness and much-needed change in the area of patient safety. Mark feels strongly that no other family should suffer a horrific loss like his family has.

Mark has a BA in Finance from the University of Iowa. He is a licensed real estate professional and also holds designations in financial planning. Mark is currently serving his third term in the Iowa Senate and previously served two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives. He has received awards from the Iowa Brain Alliance and has been instrumental in initiating legislation for hands-free use of devices while driving, and for accuracy and completeness in completing death certificates.

Mark is dedicated to working on legislation to improve patient safety in his home state, Iowa, and across the country.
