Jeanne DeCosmo, BSN, MBA, CPHQ

As Sr. Director, Clinical Care Transformation, Jeanne supports system-level value-based care initiatives to achieve the triple aim: healthier populations, better care, and smarter spending.  Prior to joining MedStar Health, Jeanne served as Director of Workforce Development and VP Quality Policy and Advocacy at the Maryland Hospital Association. There she led numerous state-wide quality improvement efforts to reduce healthcare associated infections, served as a lead for the Nurse Retention Collaborative and established a Baltimore satellite site to support the transition of foreign-trained health professional to acute care employment.  In 2013, with a desire to advance patient voice and advocacy, Jeanne sought employment at MedStar and became the Director of Clinical Quality. Jeanne’s responsibilities included regulatory reporting oversight and system-level clinical quality improvement efforts, such as the Sepsis Improvement Collaborative.  Thought the sepsis effort and in partnership with the Sepsis Advocate, she was able to advance patient voice and perspective in ways not previously identified which led to accelerated clinician engagement and care improvement. The sepsis effort was the recipient of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Sherman Award for Excellence in Patient Engagement in 2018, the Health Quality Innovators Award for Patient-Centered Care in 2018, and the Maryland Patient Safety Center Minogue Award Circle of Honor for Patient Safety Innovation in 2019.   


Her recent speaking engagements include serving as a co-lead for the 9-month Sepsis Early Recognition Collaborative, CMS’ Hospital Innovation and Improvement Network, and as a National Quality Forum Action Team to Co-Design Patient-Centered Health Systems panelist.   In her more than 4 decades of healthcare service, she continues to be in relentless pursuit to advance patient voice, support staff through an improved work environment, and radically reform healthcare delivery. She received her BSN from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and her MBA at Hood College in Frederick Maryland.  She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
