Indu Poornima, MD

Dr. Indu Poornima is a preventive cardiologist, healthcare quality leader, and patient safety advocate dedicated to reducing preventable harm and improving the safety of healthcare systems. She serves as Quality Officer for the Allegheny Health Network Cardiovascular Institute, where she leads multidisciplinary initiatives focused on quality improvement, patient safety, and value-based care across a large integrated health system.

Dr. Poornima holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety from Harvard Medical School and has spent more than two decades advancing safer, more reliable care through clinical leadership and using a quality improvement framework. She serves on national and state quality and patient safety committees, including the American College of Cardiology's Partners in Quality Committee and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority Board.

Her commitment to patient safety is deeply personal. In addition to witnessing the impact of preventable harm as a physician, she has experienced the healthcare system from the perspective of a family caregiver. These experiences reinforced her belief that many adverse events are preventable and inspired her lifelong commitment to partnering with patients, families, clinicians, and healthcare organizations to create safer systems of care. She is passionate about ensuring that every patient voice is heard and that lessons learned from harm lead to meaningful change for future patients and families.
