David Dauman

David Dauman is a patient advocate, healthcare consultant and longtime Patient and Family Advisor at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. His involvement in patient advocacy grew from his own experience as a multiple myeloma patient beginning in 2012 and his belief that patients and families can play an important role in making healthcare safer, more compassionate and more effective. David serves as Co-Chair of Moffitt’s Patient and Family Advisory Council and participates in several advisory committees and patient experience initiatives. He regularly speaks with nurses, medical students, healthcare leaders and other audiences about patient- and family-centered care and the importance of including the patient voice in decisions that affect patient care.

Professionally, David is the founder and CEO of Solutions House, a learning and organizational consulting firm he founded in 2001. During his career, he has designed and led learning, leadership and organizational initiatives for major companies, universities and healthcare organizations, with programs reaching more than one million participants.

David believes that patients and families bring expertise that cannot be found in a chart, survey or clinical protocol. He is passionate about creating genuine partnerships between patients, families and healthcare professionals—not simply giving patients a voice, but making sure that voice is heard and used to improve care. He also believes that positive patient experiences can only occur when care providers are supported by the organizations that employ them.

David lives in the Tampa Bay area with his wife, Rona, their children, Jacob and Lauren, and their golden retriever, Sadie. Outside of his professional and advocacy work, he enjoys long-distance cycling, cooking, reading and cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
