A Champions' Survey on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

Patients for Patient Safety US (PFPS US) is proud to partner with the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) on Patient Safety in the Era of Artificial Intelligence, a landmark initiative developing a national strategy informed by input from the health field, including the patient community, capitalizing on AI as a facilitator of breakthrough improvement in patient safety. Your responses to this survey will contribute to the NAM strategy and future PFP SUS projects in AI and will help ensure that lived experience shapes AI strategies, policies, and practices that affect the safety of care.

Who Are You Really Talking To?

Today, AI is almost everywhere. Unless you're talking to someone in person, on a live phone call, a real video call, or getting a real email or text from an actual person, you're probably talking to AI.

That includes:

  • Chatbots on hospital or insurance websites
  • Search engine answers
  • Customer service chats
  • Health tips in your social media feed

Why does this matter for your safety? AI can sound friendly and sure of itself — and still be wrong. A real person can be held responsible for what they tell you. AI cannot.

Always askIs a real person, who can be held accountable, telling me this?
